GoUpstate recently announced Spartanburg County is now home to 207 foreign-owned businesses and companies.

“The Upstate’s density of foreign-owned firms outranks that of the United States, the average of all metropolitan areas, and of South Carolina,” John Lummus, president and CEO of Upstate SC Alliance -- a public-private organization that markets the Upstate to the world -- said in a statement. “Spartanburg County has among the highest foreign-direct investment densities within the Upstate.”

Spartanburg, officials say, is home to vast amounts of available land, a willing workforce and an attractive quality of life. Additionally, the region has a pro-business agenda, good schools, access to several local colleges, an ample workforce, access to two major interstates, an inland port in Greer, a moderate climate and plenty of relatively affordable land. Because of these attributes, business leaders in Spartanburg believe the economic growth will continue.

Geordy Johnson, president of Johnson Development Associates of Spartanburg, noted the region has ample speculative industrial space. His company can use that space for manufacturing and distribution centers.

Johnson said that the economic growth will continue for foreign companies so long as Spartanburg continues to be an attractive market and keeps its pro-business agenda.
